今日4月21日は、Sinead O’Connorの”Nothing Compares 2U”が全米ナンバーワンになった日から26年目。
1990年1月から彼女の母国アイルランドから始まり、ヨーロッパ各国でチャートでナンバーワンになり、4月にはビルボードの総合チャートでも。(その後4週に渡り)
ちょうど4月の椿でのDJはプリンス特集で、この曲は殿下がファミリーともいえるThe Timeの為に書き下ろした曲で1985年にレコードにもなってるんだが、シネイドによるカヴァーで世に広く知られることに。
凄く好きな曲で、先日の椿でもプリンスとNPGによるセルフカヴァーを、かけようと思ったけど、DJイベントなんでもノリの良い曲を優先したのと、殿下は曲が多すぎて断念してしまった悔いが残る気持ちで引きずった気持ちから書いてみた。

この曲は殿下の当時の恋人で、レヴォルーションのメンバー、ウェンディ一卵性の双子の姉妹スザンナへ捧げられているんだが、現在の僕には、全てが殿下に対してのものに聞こえてならない….
